Santana would be a valuable asset to any team but for the amount of money and length of contract he wants, whats the guarantee he would last that long or possible have a injury?…..Any team (even the Yankees) who feel that a player wanting that kind of money and length of contract is worth it should look at what it takes to win in this league. Not one player but a team. So why not put the money into the whole team as a whole and not just one player. Signing A-Rod was a plus for the Yankees but who is to say that he will keep the statistics he has had in the past for the entire contract?……Look at the Tigers….They stocked their roster with new Free Agent additions but never paid the money that A-Rod or Santana wants and have balanced their team out for a run for the whole thing. Not to mention alot of other teams that have inproved their rosters alot.

If the Red Sox plan to continue to win, they will need pitching. Johan can not hurt their chances in any way. But, team chemistry could take a back seat with a new $20 million/year signing. Now I never feel bad for any of these “under paid and under appreciated” athletes, but put yourself if Beckett’s shoes. You go out and win the ALCS MVP, which without you the Sox never make the World Series. You stay unhittable against the “super hot” Rockies and you aren’t making that kind of cash. The Red Sox need to keep the young guns they have in Lester, Beckett, Dice-K, and Buchholtz. THAT is the pitching staff of the future for the Sox and you won’t see $20 million going to neither of them per year.

No pitcher is worth one million per decision. Even if Johan won 30 decisions next year how does pitching once every 5 days constitute a 20 million dollar annual salary?

Good grief Santana, please go…. You are no Robinhood by any means.

Besides.. you know how tiny you felt when Liriano had the spotlight… that is why you want to go.. lest you feel like that in Minnesota again.

The prospects are a sheer gift for unlocking the Twins from this Scrooge.
